The Habibie Center is organizing a seminar titled “A New Strategic Alliance? Situating Japan-Philippine-US (JAPHUS) in Indo-Pacific”. This event brought ISI, represented by the Director of Research (@airakusumas), and other speakers to discuss the emerging JAPHUS alliance and its geopolitical significance.
This discussion is expected to comprehend the potential implications JAPHUS will bring to the region. Initially, it is based on the milestones of those countries in the meeting to fortify military and economic ties, possibly reflecting a unified response to the escalating assertiveness of China in the Indo-Pacific theater. Aside from anticipation surrounding China’s response in light of this recent US strategic move, discussion also emerged on the strategic presence of ASEAN as the “driver” of multilateralism in the region. This seminar is held on 26 June 2024.
